  • fldogwalker Great Floridian Triathlon Here is my thought to ponder and discuss. I just completed Ironman Augusts 70.3 this past weekend. This was my first 70.3 and I was thinking to myself.. "self, what is more challenging, a half ironman of a marathon?" Of course the Ironman takes longer, but is it truly harder?" I am on the fence. I would say the Ironman is more difficult to prepare for.. but on race day it may be easier? What do you think? props to Kevin Grogan for prompting me to register on tirathletesvillage.com for a chance to win a free registration to GFT!!!

    • closerI think that the marathon is harder. I've done several half's most of which under 5hrs and each time I think - "boy running all out for 3hrs would kill me". The pounding on your body a marathon takes on you is much worse IMHO.

    • AaronLast year I did 4 marathons and 2 Ironmans and I agree with Closer.... The marathon is way tougher than the Ironman. I hurt way more after a marathon compared to an Ironman. Here is my take. You cam never really get warmed up enough getting ready to run a stand alone marathon. I feel that after I am out bicycling for 6 to 6 .5 hours my legs are all warmed up and it isn't like you are starting with cold legs. Also I think most of us tend to go faster during a marathon knowing we don't have to save up our energy... meaning once we are done running, we are done. Hell what to do i really know.....just my opinion...

  • briankuritzky An interesting story to my Great Flordiian quest, a colleague of mine and I were bantering back and forth about how baseball players are poor athletes (no offense to anyone here - was trying to push his buttons) and myself being a former soccer player said soccer players are in much better shape. After a good amount of back and forth, he challenged me to do an ironman distance race which I said a soccer player could have no issues with given a good training regiment. course i've been training). Anyway, I had heard great things about the Great Floridian and looking forward to this race. What are some other people's stories out there?

  • Kyle College student with a lot of training miles and not too much spending money. I havent been able to purchase the Ultra entry but I think I am in enough shape to conquer the distance. Does anyone know how they select the last few spots? Would love a chance to climb sugarloaf.

  • TriMark To everyone that I have mentioned as a winner of an entry to the 2010 Great Floridian Triathlon. I have been posting the winner's screen names at about the same time I send them a message via the "Send Message" option in the Community Member Directory. To read your message(s) that I or any other Village member has sent you, direct you cursor over the "Community" in the menu bar above (between Home and News). There you will see the Community Center, Huts, Forums, and then below the Village Menu Directory is My Profile. Move your cursor over that and to the right you will see Member Inbox. Click on Member Inbox. You will then see my message(s) to you. Mark
