Im not too worried about the speed at the moment. Im just trying to get a regular 15 hrs plus in every week. Once it gets to about 12 weeks to go I'll start putting a bit more speed in. Im very lucky that where I live there is a cycling group that contains about 10 ex pro cyclists and their tuesday and thursday night sessions are very rapid i mean 30-35 mph for 2 hrs. Ive done easier road races! so once july comes around I'll start with them. Also Im having a training week in Riva del Garda in northern Italy at the end on june so I should have good bike legs at least eh?

How was the 3 day weekend E Dad? Im going to have to fight to get my hours in this weekend because I am on Night Shift. 3 Days of sleep deprivation doesnt do the immune system any good Its like having a baby in the house again.

Weekend is this next one. I've had a good week so far. I really hurt from trying to train for more speed.
It's 5 months until I should show up in Clermont. That has me a little more focused.

I missed any workouts this last week because I had to work overtime. I'm still ahead of last year.
I'll know more after this weekend. I have a three day weekend that should be free to train.

Southport, Merseyside ,Great Britain-what a great place to be a triathlete-miles of sand dune and pinewood trails to run on, loads of great country lanes to ride with enough hills nearby and lots of quality swim sessions within a short drive..........................if only it would stop raining!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at least while im not in work. It chucked it down this morning so I did 2 1/2 hrs on the turbo before work but now im in work the sun is cracking the flags. At least ill stay dry on my luchtime run. 2 thing are evident from today- 1 I need to get a job nearer home with no shift work 2 I need to win the lottery and move somewhere with more conducive weather But then I reckon Im not the only one in this situation eh?

KAR, your back, I thought you dissapeared.
So how was your marathon? Are you in 4 GFT?
I noticed the count down clock is running fast (er than I want).
if you pause the "Tri News" the forum works better.

E-Dad, I didn't disappear just yet! Last year I came down with a devastating cold during GFT taper, left me no choice but to stay home. My first race of the '12 season was April 1st. I looked forward to it for months, couldn't wait for my revenge, and, man I was hungry. Sure enough, I came down with another cold, this one absolutely devastating. No need to get graphic, but it was pretty bad, settled in my chest and felt its effects for weeks. I had my stuff packed the night before, hoping I'd wake in the moring feeling good enough to race: no luck. No race. And the half marathon at the end of April was run in a monsoon, and I was not in shape for it, but survived it. My next race is an Oly, on May 20, and I've completely lost interest in it. I have a Memorial Day 5k, and a sprint tri on July 4th. GFT 2012?? Too early to tell, but it's easy to commit once you're entered, rather than train and hope someone is selling their slot. Having a hard time staying motivated, but I'll come around. It's been real tough lately. My 24 week plan started May 5th, so I need to head out of my ass and get going. Sorry for the long rant. Hope to see at Clermont. Train safe. Welcome, Spirit of '89! This is a great race!

I have an odd habit of ommitting words by accident. Changes the meaning a little. " I need to GET my head out..." and "Hope to see YOU at Clermont." Sorry for the confusion.

90 !!! I wish we very rarely get above 75 even in the hight of summer. IM Wales is a race i havent done. Ive got a bit of a thing about racing abroad. I think it comes from when I did the GP series of "long course and olympic distance" races back in the 80s as semi pro. Have you done IM Lanzarote thats a killer very hilly, windy and hot. I have done quite a bit of training in wales and it is a very beutiful part of the world. IM UK is held about 20 miles from my home town but I cant get my head around spending all that money to use roads I ride on every day. Strange eh?

I understand, I live close to IM Louisville, but don't want to do it. It cost more just to enter IML than I spend for the week at GFT.
Last year I did Beach2Battleship. It was a very good race. I'm planning on doing it again next because it's close to where my brother lives and we'll do it together.

Whenever we visit Florida we always wait for October/November time because our schools of on an autumn break and yours are in school so we find everywhere a little quieter! which is always nice. I did my first heat tolerance session this morning-2.5 hours on the turbo in all my winter cycling gear ! Im not saying it was pleasant but I'll feel the benefit in October- just off for 45 min run now

It's 90 here so I don't need to suit-up to warm-up.
Have you done IM Wales? I think I'd like to do that one someday.

Hi E dad- Because its a fair old haul over to the US for us we are making a family holiday out of it and we have rented a nice villa in Orange Tree for 2 weeks. we arrive on 13th Oct so I will hopefully get a ride around the bike course and maybe a swim in the lake while the rest of our party(7 in all) get to spend their time in the parks. By the look of the photos on the GFT site the road surfaces appear smooth, I was thinking of bringing my disc and 3 spoke with light tubs on, what do you think?

I'll be solo this year. I have 5 kids, but they will be in school so this is my time to go play.
The roads are usually very good. The temps maybe warmer than you're use to, but sounds like you'll have time to get ready.
make sure you test out some thing to help you with salt and electrolytes.
Looking forward to meeting you and the family.
